About The Shop

Read below for a little more info about The Shop...

Who we are...

The members of The Shop come from a variety of backgrounds and trades. Our occupations don't require us to have a high level of fitness but our lives need balance. We are average people who want to achieve above average results. We want be prepared for the unknowns that life is sure to throw us. Our day to day routines do not require us to do what we do at The Shop...
but even still, we train.

What we do...

The question was asked recently...
"Can you describe what is involved in the workouts you do at The Shop?"

So, in an effort to describe something that can not fully be explained with words and must be experienced multiple times to be fully understood, here's the start of an answer...

Workouts are typically done in some sort of circuit format and consist of a various mixture of movement types including, but not limited to:
Sprinting, jumping, lifting, running, carrying, dragging, and throwing.

Some of the movements are done with nothing more than a persons bodyweight and include: situps, pushups, squats, dips, box jumps, and pullups. Other parts of the workouts involve weight and include: Olympic lifts with barbells and rubber or metal weights, medicine balls, dumbbells, kettlebells, and other misc. strengthening tools. We also incorporate unconventional items like large logs, tractor tires, kegs, and ropes for pulling, dragging, or climbing.

Work is done while under stress and fatigue, often at high speeds, and at loads varying from relatively light to near maximal. Focus and an intimate knowledge of ones abilities and surroundings is required at all times to help eliminate the chance of accident or injury.

When we do it...

Generally we start just after 5pm and currently follow a 3 on 1 off / 2 on 1 off schedule. This outline occasionally varies depending on upcoming events or outside forces but generally we work on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday with Thursdays and Sundays being "Active Rest Days". Most of our members choose to stay active on at least one of the rest days with hiking, running, and biking or with time spent at The Shop working on form, technique, and range of motion.

Where things happen...

Most of the work posted here takes place in a 2400 sq ft warehouse. We're centrally located just off topeka blvd, here in Topeka, KS. We also program weekly trail running, hill sprints, biking, and other activities in and around the Topeka area.

Why we do it...

The reasons vary widely between members as to why they voluntarily put themselves through the work done here at The Shop. Some have goals of running a 5k in "x" amount of time, others are more interested in their overall strength, while some are most interested in what their doctor tells them at their annual checkup. That being said there is a common theme that unites us all and plays the central role in what we do:
SELF IMPROVEMENT.
In the end we all have the same goal, we are all interested in increasing our level of physical and mental abilities across the board.

Within that common goal is a desire to improve upon who we are, who we were, and who we thought we'd be. We believe that our hard work and dedication to the work done in The Shop will spill over into every other aspect of our lives. This in turn will make us more capable in dealing with our responsibilities with regard to our home, work, and personal life and
who doesn't' want that?
